TRANSITION FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE

Most students entering college will find many differences between high school and college. There will be a transition period. With careful planning and awareness of policies and procedures, students will enhance their chances of success.

It is important that a student with a disability understand his or her disability and its impact in the college setting. A student with a disability should also know his or her rights and responsibilities and be willing to take an active role in planning the transition to college. The OSS’ publication “Transitioning From High School to College: A Guide for Students With Disabilities” explains the differences between high school and college and provides information to help students with disabilities plan their transition.
