This course prepares students for work in the cannabis cultivation industry. The content focuses on specific knowledge and skill sets to work in both indoor and outdoor grow facilities, including greenhouses. Students will learn about the cannabis growth cycle, elements of plant health, agricultural cultivation techniques, cannabis plant tracking systems, state regulations and inspections, and biosecurity measures.

Students must have permission from the instructor to enroll in this class to ensure that they have the necessary curricular and/or workforce qualifications and/or background. Students enrolled in this course may potentially qualify for internships with local cannabis businesses. Therefore, they must be 21+ years of age. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Program Coordinator.

This course will provide students with the knowledge that they need to develop specific skillsets to work in the cannabis cultivation industry:
- Growing cannabis successfully in various environments
- Technologies used to regulate ideal growing conditions
- The cannabis growth cycle
- How to grow healthy plants for optimal cannabinoid profiles
- State regulations for cannabis plant tracking systems
- Requirements for state regulations and inspections
- biosecurity measures
- genetics, breeding, tissue culture, and creating strains
Additionally, students in this class will be required to submit a capstone project in the form of a resume and cover letter outlining skill sets learned in the micro-credential. This capstone project is concurrent with the Introduction to Cannabis Processing course.
This curriculum will be taught asynchronously, using the college’s LMS (Learning Management System). Students will need to access video content and readings to participate in a discussion board and complete assessments. They will have access to the instructor via virtual meetings and email, as well as the program coordinator either on-campus or remotely.
