The Assistant Director of Accounting serves as the fiscal manager for the Workforce Investment Office and as assistant to the Director of Accounting for the College. The Assistant Director also manages the accounting for other grant funds received by the College and reports to the Vice President for Administration.
Prepares and maintains computerized ledger, related journals and support documentation for funds covered under the authority of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and for other Workforce and College grant funds, Assists in the development, preparation, and implementation of budgets, Prepares various financial reports and schedules, including monthly reports to NYS Department of Labor, Manages cash requirements and requests cash from State and County sources, Prepares bank reconciliations, general ledger account analysis and reconciliations and journal entries, Administers desk reviews and onsite reviews of subcontracts, Oversees the preparation of participant support and vendor payments, Manages audit of funds covered under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Monitors and reports NYS unclaimed funds, and Assists with the annual Workers Compensation audit.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting with three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in an educational setting. Experience with a computerized fiscal system and MS Office Suite are required. Knowledge of Oracle Database systems, Banner programs/applications is a plus.
Position requires excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Knowledge of governmental accounting standards is preferred. Candidate must have strong analytical skills and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
