A Message to the Community

In recent weeks, the brutal deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and Elijah McClain – to name just a few – have brought into sharp focus the rampant racism pervading the country.

Tragically, some members of our community have posted comments teeming with bigotry and hate on social media. The College thanks the diligent individuals who have alerted us about these repugnant and reprehensible remarks.

Although the First Amendment of the Constitution protects the freedom of speech, know that hate and racism expressed in any form are not welcome at Columbia-Greene Community College. And we will never cease to create opportunities inside and outside the classroom for every member of our community to deepen an understanding of systemic racism, raise awareness about implicit bias, and develop culturally responsive practices that foster an inclusive learning and working environment.

In community and peace,

Carlee Drummer, Ph.D.
