On Tuesday, January 21, the 24th Annual Juried Art Show opened in the Foundation Gallery of Columbia-Greene Community College.
Sponsored by college’s Fine Arts program, this event invites art students from surrounding high schools to showcase their work and compete for prize money. Artwork on display is selected by the art department heads of each participating high school, resulting in a wide variety of media, approaches, and subjects.
Cairo-Durham, Catskill, Chatham, Coxsackie-Athens, Germantown, Greenville, Hudson, Ichabod Crane, New Lebanon, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Saugerties, Taconic Hills, and Windham-Ashland-Jewett school districts, as well as The Darrow School in New Lebanon, participated in the show.
Karen Davis, curator/co-founder of the Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, served as this year’s juror. Yura Adams, director of the gallery, selected an additional work for the Director’s Prize.
In total, the Foundation Gallery awarded $600 in prizes. First prize of $150 was earned by Arika Vogel from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District. The Director’s Prize of $150 was earned by Thalia Melendez from Cairo-Durham Central School District. Second prize of $100 was earned by Lydia Valentino from Coxsackie-Athens Central School District. Third prize of $80 was earned by Giulia Oxenholm from Rhinebeck High School. There were three honorable mentions, including Ryleigh Keating from New Lebanon Central School District, Eric Litvack-Winkler of The Darrow School, and Victoria Shuster from Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School, awarded $40 each.
